Thanksgiving Dinner menu

I am sooo excited to see you guys!!! It's so close! I have the rooms almost all ready for you all. I love making things fun for company!
As far as the menu is concered all of your ideas have been great! You all know I love the cranberry salad which I will make, even if it's just a small one, so if everyone else wants the jello/pretzel one we can do both. I love green beans with cream of mushroom soup. But other than that and of course the traditional things like: stuffing, gravey, turkey, pumpkin pie, that's all I care about.
I'll make a Christmas list. That's a good idea to exchange at Thanksgiving. I love you all!!

P.S. To The Stewarts, You will be there in spirit and we will call often. I love you!

Christmas Gift Exchange

Hi everyone, so I just thought I'd do a quick post and have everyone think about what they want for Christmas and make a list asap. We will do it tonight as well!! I really want to bring my gifts to thanksgiving so I don't have to mail them, so it'd be great if people could get these out by the weekend at least:) I'll have to email Lauren and Steve since I know they won't check the blog. Mom this includes you too:) Love you guys!!

More Thanksgiving Ideas

Ok, so I'm not as cool as Shell, I didn't find pictures for my ideas, but oh well, I figured I'd post them since we're leaving in a little over a week!! Where has November gone?? Anyway, I asked Jon what he always loved having at thanksgiving, and then thought of what I'd like to try and make, and here's what we came up with:

Sherry's mashed potatoes. I know I made them last time and they didn't turn out so great, but I've made them since, so hopefully they will be better. They are seriously my favorite part of the Armour thanksgiving, so I've got to perfect these:)

Corn Bread Casserole. This is another Armour family recipe that's tradition and very yummy. I figure I'll never be the one assigned to make it for their family, but I really want to know how, so I'm going to take that on as well.

Banana Cream Pie/Real Cheesecake. I've never made either of these, but since they're the only two pies I like, I figure I better make them or else there will be no dessert for me, hehe. I haven't decided which, I'll have to see which looks easier:)

Those are the ones I've thought of that are unique. I also think we should make the rolls from mom's recipe book. They're super easy and super yummy. I always get asked for the recipe when I take them places. Also, I have a jello/pretzel dish that's good, but if someone had another jello salad they love then we should go with that. I know mom loves the cranberry stuff, doesn't that have jello in it? So maybe that's enough jello! I also have a really yummy salad recipe too, if we wanted a green salad. Anyway, hopefully these should work:) I figure we put our ideas up there and then actually make sure it's somewhat balanced in the end. Love you all!!

Thanksgiving ideas

Steph had a the great idea for us to post things that we wanted to make on Thanksgiving. I'm sorry that I always want to make the craziest things, but it is just so fun for me! Here are some of the things I have already thought of:

Pumpkin-Filled Pancakes
Dont these look amazing! Not for Thanksgiving day, but maybe breakfast the day before or something.

Pumpkin Pie
I want to try to make mine look like this this year. Cool, huh!

Butternut Squash Soup
Are we the only ones who would like this?
Sweet Potato Casserol
I wont make these fat free this time! These will be the real deal and I will show everyone how GOOD sweet potatoes are!

Is it weird that everything I want to make is orange? I cant help it!

More Pictures from the Stewarts

Ok so I always forget to write stuff before I upload any pictures. Here are some more pictures of our family that I have been forgetting to share and have promised some of you. This first first one if you can't guess is from Halloween. They had so much fun!
Here they are with Chris (and yes he finally cut his hair!!!!!) getting ready to go.

Decorating cookies with mom and Lauren. We really had so much fun and of course the cookies were great!!!

Grammy and Gage at the zoo. This was at the end and hard to get this picture.

Here are both the boys. Gaven did not want to get off the baby tiger.

This is Gage's first day of pre-school. He has such a great time and has made some really good friends.

We actually got to ride in this monster school bus. It was in the Sear's parking lot and the money went to a charity that I can't remember. Gage still talks about it and it was months ago.

It was huge. It was like a roller coaster and actually made me a little sick.

This is on the boats at Lagoon. Gaven had fun ringing the bell. The little girl is my niece that we never see. They are exactly 2 weeks apart.

Grandpa won Gage a guitar and he thought he was a cool rock star.
There were so many more pictures that I wanted to post, so maybe I will have to do another posting to show you all how much fun we have had the last couple of months. The boys are so big and so fun. They are best friends and miss each other when they are not together. I hope you guys have so much fun at Thanksgiving, we wish we could be there, but we will see all of you at Christmas!!! Also for those of you who have noticed that I joined Facebook, I have no idea how to do anything on there, but I will learn eventually!

October trip to Utah

Here are a few pictures from my recent trip to visit Brittany and her family and Lauren. I'm not very good at remembering to take pictures! I know Brittany has a bunch more.

Gaven is tasting the cookie dough from the Halloween sugar cookies we were making. I wish I had pictures of them cutting out and frosting them! It was sooo much fun. Too bad we burned two whole cookie sheets so they were un edible!
We took a trip to the Hogle Zoo! It was soo much fun for me because I remember going there as a kid and taking some of you kids there when you were little! I asked Steven to take a picture of me and Reid. Aren't we so cute! I love that Gage is in it, too! Gage called Reid "Uncle Reid" the whole time we were there! Ha, ha!

This giant elephant sprayed water out of his trunk. It was kinda cold that day so Gage stayed far away from the trunk! Smart kid!

This is the lion's mouth water fountain right at the beginning. Watch out! Gage and Gaven!

Oh no! It's got you!
Not many pictures but it's fun to see how big the boys are! I had such a great time! I also got to see Lauren and meet her latest "beau"! His name is Vern and Steven, Reid and I went to dinner with them and tried sushi! He is cute and nice and very insistant on spending time with Lauren!! Steven and Chris went shooting the day we made the cookies. I know Steven had a blast! Thanks, Chris for taking him! Reid and I had a lot of fun together. Brittany said we were like teenagers! I hope it wasn't too bad! And, we still like each other after spending 5 days together! What's next?

Recipes!!

Ok, so I finally typed up some recipes. Yeah!! They're kind of a random mix, and probably not the ones you guys may have wanted first, because they're a little more time consuming, but the recipes were easy to get to which keeps Samantha sleeping, so here they are and I promise I'll get more out soon!!

Chicken Enchiladas

Ingredients:
1 lb chicken (can also use ground beef) ~2 chicken breasts
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 medium onion chopped (I use yellow)
1 4-6 oz can green diced chilies (if I want it a little spicier, I will sometimes use 8oz)
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream
cheese (I just kind of add this, so no real measuring)
1 can corn
½-1 cup uncooked rice, just depends on how much you like, I usually use ½ cup so it’s not as dry.

Directions:
1) Brown chicken, add garlic cumin pepper and onion
2) In sauce pan, warm green chilies, soup, sour cream and cheese to taste
3) In tortilla place chicken mix, rice, corn and sauce. I will usually combine the corn and meat mixture so its one less step.
4) Place enchiladas in 9x13 pan, cover with remaining sauce. I also add some more cheese on the top and bake at 350 for 30 min or until sauce is bubbling.

~Sometimes Jon will ask for them to be extra saucy. So, I will do 3 cans of soup, 1 ½ cups sour cream and more cheese. I’ll also make sure I do at least 8 oz of chilies, we like them spicy! If you want it to be less spicy you can also reduce the amount of cumin and black pepper.

Chicken Tortilla Soup

Ingredients:
3 chicken breasts, cooked and cubed
1 can black beans
2 cups corn (one can)
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1-2 tsp cumin (2 for spicy)
1 large onion diced (I don’t like as much onion, so normally just do a medium)
3 cloves minced garlic
1 can Italian diced tomatoes
1 can Mexican diced tomatoes
6 cups chicken broth (can also substitute 2 of the cups with beef broth)
1 tsp salt
1-2 tsp pepper (2 for spicy)
2 tbs oil to sauté the onion

Directions:
1) Cook and cube the chicken
2) Sauté the onion
3) Combine all ingredients and heat till begins to boil

Toppings:
Sour cream
Crushed tortilla chips
Cilantro (this is really good in it!)
Cheese
Avocado
Lime juice

~I also sometimes serve corn bread on the side

Chicken and Broccoli Casserole

Ingredients:
1-2 chicken breasts (I usually use one because I’m cheap and we like broccoli, but it’s pretty skimpy on the meat)
Broccoli- no real measurement, just add till it looks right
2 cans cream of chicken soup
½ cup milk
¾-1 cup mayonnaise, make sure you don’t use miracle whip…it’s really yucky!
1 ½ cup cheese
1 cup uncooked rice

Directions:
1) boil chicken ~25 min, cut into pieces and place in 9x13 casserole pan
2) Add desired amount of broccoli, I pretty much fill the pan up
3) In separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients for the sauce
4) Pour sauce mixture over broccoli and chicken combo.
5) Bake at 350 for 30-40 min, until sauce begins to boil
6) While casserole is baking, cook 1 cup rice
7) Pour casserole over rice

Italian Delight

Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 can creamed corn
1 can cream of mushroom soup ( I use cream of chicken, because I don’t like mushrooms)
1 cup grated cheese
1 ½ cups sour cream
1 pkg egg noodles

Directions:
1) Boil noodles till cooked through
2) Brown the meat
3) Mix the two together with remaining ingredients and place in 9x13 pan.
4) Bake at 350 for 35 minutes

~Jon likes Hawaiian bread with this on the side

Potato Cheese Soup

Ingredients:
1 lb potatoes (~ 5 medium potatoes)
1 medium onion, chopped
¼ cup butter
½ cup butter
½ cup flour
4 cups milk
1 cup chicken broth
1 ½ tsp salt
2 cups grated cheese

Directions:
1) Cut potatoes up into small pieces and boil till tender.
2) Sauté onion in the ¼ cup butter, set aside. (Lately I haven’t been adding the onion and we like it better….so you can decide!)
3) In large saucepan make a white sauce: melt the ½ cup butter over medium heat, then whisk in the flour until well blended.
4) Gradually stir in the milk, chicken broth and salt.
5) Stir constantly until mixture reaches a boil, this seems to take longer than I think, or want it to. Just a warning!
6) Once boiling cook 1-2 minutes until thickened.
7) Add potatoes and onion.
8) Stir in the cheese
9) Cook briefly over medium heat; try not to let it boil.

~This seems to turn out better when the potatoes are really soft, that way some sort of mush into the soup. Also, I sort of adapted this recipe from a few different ones, so you could also use broccoli instead of potatoes. I’ve never tried it, but one of the recipes was for broccoli cheese soup…so it should work. We like to eat this with French bread!!

Ok, so I'm realizing that maybe it would have been easier just to email you the word file. I thought this would be good because that way you can just copy paste the ones you want, but... recipes take up a lot of space. So, let me know if any of you want the word file and also how you want me to give them to you in the future. Love you guys!!!

Catching up!!!

Continuation of trip back east:

This is Sunday morning. We went into DC to find our own Chase Larsen, missionary from our ward serving in DC. This is the ward bldg. On either side are houses. Probably with only about 6 feet inbetween.
Then on to the BIG APPLE!!! We drove for about 4 hours, through a billion toll gates and a lot of money later to arrive at our hotel in New Jersey. This hotel was the most expensive part of the whole trip! But it was really nice. We found we could catch the bus into the city right in front of the hotel. The first thing we did was to find Radio City Music Hall. It was close to where we got off the bus. Then some people wanted us to take their picture and they told us that the Grammy (I think that's right, the ones for Broadway?) Awards were going on there that night and all the actors were arriving. So, of course we went right over and pushed our way into the crowd.

We saw Brook Shields and Robert Lithgow. But then who should appear on the scene? DANIEL RADCLIFF!! He was so short that it was hard to see. Steven didn't care about seeing him so he put Lauren on his shoulders. We were directly across the street from him. It was pretty AMAZING!!! I think it was my most favorite part of the whole trip!

Time for dinner. We found this place where we had traditional NY pizza!

Steven's got his piece folded so he can shove more into his mouth at one time!

Then it was a walk through Time Square. The M&M store!

The Hershey store. Open up wide!

Lauren's wishing for a real one!

Steven's so excited he's blurry! (Ha, as Steve would say!)

A solenm moment in front of the site of the Twin Towers.

Taking the ferry over to Liberty and Ellis Islands.

No way to get both Steve and the top of the Statue of Liberty in the picture!

Lauren and I were looking for unique people. I thought these were perfect!

Mozeltoff (sp?)anyone?

Steven is starving? He was so cute and bought me an ice cream cone while we were here!

This was our last day(sad!). We went to the Empire State Bldg. before driving back to Maryland to fly home. As you can see the view is incredible. We had gone there the day before but luckily the guide told us the top was in the clouds before we paid to go up. So we waited. I'm so glad we did!

This is in the lobby of the Empire State Bldg. Of course Lauren spotted it!
I guess that's all the pictures from ourBIG TRIP! It was so much fun and we will always remember sharing all those expeiences together.

Now for the trip to see Michelle and Tyler in Pleasanton CA. I can't tell where this picture was taken but I thought it was cute!

Cute again!!

This is at Fisherman's Warf. This guy is "the tree guy"! He hides behind this branch and jumps out at people. Then they are supposed to give him money for scaring them and making them laugh. I had to pay to take this picture!

Ghirardelli Square, too much ice cream Ty?

Shell and I spent the day at her classroom getting it ready. Doesn't she look proffesional?
I had soo much fun staying with Michelle and Ty. They are the perfect hosts and made sure I felt like a princess. I had a chance to see where Ty works and some of the buildings his company owns. He's probably their favorite employee because he loves his work so much! Thanks for the wonderful visit!

Next is Lauren leaving to go back to BYU(sad). You can't believe how full this car was! Luckily we got Nathan Larsen to take some of Lauren's stuff! Thanks Nate! Bro Charles was nice enough to give Lauren a "beginning of the school year" blessing before they left. Aren't we lucky to have such good friends!

On September 11 Steven pass his Eagle board of review! WOW! Steve, what an accomplishment! He worked sooo hard all summer on somewhere between 3-5 merit badges and of course the Eagel project itself! Way to go Steve!!

We didn't want to buy new scout clothes so he wore the ones he got back in 8th grade! Ha!

Side view!

Birthday time for Steve This was his "GOLDEN" birthday. If you don't know what that means, it's when you turn the same age as the day of the month your bithday is on, hence, Steve turned 18 on Sept 18, 2008!! I can't believe he is that old! Where did my little boy go?

He still likes toy cars, though!

And ice cream cakes!
Well, I guess that catches me up for now. I love looking at the posts you all make, so make them more often,OK? I'll be visiting Brittany's family and Lauren in October, so look for more pictures to come!! Love you all. MOM

Recipes needed!!!!!

I am trying to put together a recipe book that has simple things that I can make for my family before I go to work. So please, everyone send me your favorites! Also I am looking for some really fun and inexpensive ways to decorate my house for the upcoming holidays, so if you have any ideas let me know!

We measured Gage and Gaven today, Gage is 41.5 inches, and Gaven is 33 inches. They have gotten really big this summer. I can tell the biggest differences in Gaven. He is saying new words everyday. He has also started to sing. His first song he learned was, of course, Bob the Builder! He also loves Popcorn Popping. Gage started preschool last Tuesday and loved it! A few of us in my ward are actually doing it and rotating houses every week. It's called Joy School if any of you have heard about it. I only have to teach once every 6 weeks or so. I just can't believe he is already big enough to do this. I am excited to get to know the mom's better and then we can have more play dates for Gage.

Well here are some pictures from this summer:

This is Gaven on Gage's birthday. He loved the motorcylce!
This was the NICU reunion, they turned the sirens on and everything!
They also got to sit inside which was really cool
Gage listens for the ice cream jeep everyday
This is at the family reunion in Idaho. Allan and Briana are the other two in the picture.
This is in the meadow out in front of the cabin.Eating a snack under the trees
waiting for the plane to come and drop the ping pong balls in the meadow
This is Gage on his birthday riding his new motorcycle.
Here is his Lightening MacQueen cake. He couldn't wait to pull him off and he didn't even eat any of the cake!

We love all of you and miss you so much!!!!!
